I like the concept of AI, but what it has become vs where it started is absolutely mind-boggling. I remember a time when they were first starting out with neural networks, using them to predict next pixel value and generating the blurriest, most warped pictures of teddy bears you had ever seen. Still, it was amazing to think that a computer could visualize what it was VIEWING in code, and if fed enough information, could generate a similar output. I remember, at the time, thinking about how it reminded me of, just a few years prior, they were using brain scans and electrical signal readings to recreate what people saw in their dreams, and relating that to making 'sight' for blind people. I remember thinking about how these computers could be used instead of eyes, even as rudimentary eyes with shadow and light readings, and that this coding advancement could give blind people the chance to see, even a little better.
I never imagined it would become 'how do I make someone naked' simulator. I honestly don't even care that it's being abused in such a way, it is inevitable. I am more concerned in the way that it is used to fuel disinformation and propaganda, and used to lure people in like a sinkhole of endless time. I have said to friends that I feel that technology has advanced to the point that it wants to steal all of our free time to feed itself. I remember a time when it FELT like the computer knew what you wanted because someone coded it to feel that way. I remember when good or bad AI just meant 'how smart are the enemies in this game'.
